Someone experience with Stream Distance ?
« on: December 23, 2013, 05:22:30 pm »
Who of you has changed the render distance for the Server to a higher value without issues, and what was the still best render distance thats possible. Any info on that subject would be appreciated.

Cheers

Are you sure you mean render distance and not stream distance? Render distance is a client thing which desides how far away things like players or trees get drawn. Stream distance is how far away a player or vehicle has to be before you no longer know where it is.

Decreased SyncUpdate from 180 to 100
Decreased the vehicle sync rate from 75 to 50
Decreased the on foot sync rate from 120 to 50
Doubled the player stream distance from 500 to 1000
Quadrupled the vehicle stream distance from 500 to 2000

This takes about 2 Mbit/s upload, 1.2 % CPU usage (i7 3770) and 45 MB of RAM usage with 100 players.

All in all, I feel the players are enjoying themselves much more because there's less "OMG Y WONT U DIE?! H4X0R!", and it all runs smooth.

P.S. Might wanna edit the topic totle to also say stream distance ;)
