All Good Things..
« on: July 10, 2016, 07:59:23 pm »
Hey everyone,

This post has been a long time coming. We've been putting off writing it for a while for a variety of reasons, but the most important is, has, and will always be, our desire to do right by our fans.

It is on this note that we're regretfully announcing the indefinite halt of JC3-MP development. We know you've been waiting for news over this past year - your desire to play it is matched by our desire to make it - but there's a good reason.

Good and bad news often come in pairs, and this case is no exception; several months ago, I (Trix) was approached with an offer I couldn't refuse: to join Avalanche Studios Sweden as a developer so that I could work on projects present and future. As part of Avalanche, I'll be able to bring many of the things you know and love from JC2-MP into future Avalanche experiences, while reaching heights that a mere mod couldn't facilitate. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, neither I or the rest of the team can actively pursue development on JC3-MP; our lives are just too busy to allow for it right now.

We will still be maintaining JC2-MP where appropriate - while we're not actively adding new features, we will fix bugs, maintain stability, and ensure that JC2-MP remains a quality experience for players present and future. We're still searching for solutions to our most prevalent issues (including AMD compatibility without workarounds); hopefully, we'll be able to make headway in the future.

As a closing note, we'd like to thank our loyal fanbase for all the support over the years. While we know we haven't always been the most communicative, our hearts have always been behind our mod(s) and their players. All of us remember the many wonderful moments we had in the beta tests and joining random servers well after release; on behalf of the team, thank you to all of the players, server owners, scripters, and you for everything. We couldn't have done any of it without your ongoing support.

And hey, you never know what might happen in the future - we might see you down the line in another adventure :)

Trix (Cameron Foote, Lead Developer)
with Philpax (Mithun Hunsur, Co-Lead Developer), jaxm (Troy Myers, Co-Lead Developer), Fkids (Evgeniy Andreev, Developer), dreadmullet (Developer), Woet (Wouter van Eekelen, System Administrator)

A massive Congratulations on you new job Trix and I wish you the best at Avalanche.

A big 'Thank you' to yourself and the JC-MP team and I wish everyone their best in their future endeavours.

It is a bit disappointing that we won't see JC3-MP (Not right now anyway ;) ) but we look forward to your next project, whatever that may be :)

With much love,
Padraig

Good luck to all the devs in the future, you guys have been really amazing with the development of this mod.

Personally, you've given me the means to discover within myself a passion for the development and design of games and that's something I'll always be thankful for.

While it's sad it won't be you guys who deliver jc3mp, it's totally understandable and I'm nonetheless optimistic for the future.

I wouldn't take back a single minute!

JC2MP was probably the most involved I've even been in a gaming experience. I genuinely cannot thanks the developers enough for the amount of time and effort that went into creating JC2MP. Really! I have so many cherished memories: like when Woet put the irc chat on the frontpage at the launch of a beta test, or the fun of impromptu point to point races arranged by Philpax, the manic mayhem of the destruction derby and the countless hilarious chaotic events. Even after release I continued to play for a long time on Jman100s server, playing with BenBuja and his wut group which involved a lot of stunting, building, exploring and general dicking around. I look back to my time on JC2MP with much fondness and as much as I yearn to experience it all over again, as you mention all good things do eventually come to an end. I've not played JC2MP for a long time. I'm not sure if I'll ever play seriously again in the same way. That really doesn't matter though. I got to experience JC2MP when it happened and I'm oh so very glad. Thanks you all :D

I've had a ton of fun thanks to you folks. While this is a bit of a bummer I hope you folks all have a lot of good stuff keeping you busy. So awesome to hear that this whole thing got one of you a job making games. The best developers come from within the community. That and it means more mod-friendly devs.

Best of luck to all of you, and thanks for all the smiles. :)

Good luck to all of you guys in the future and good luck to you at Avalanche, Trix. JC-MP is hands-down the best experience I have had online. I've met many awesome people and had many awesome moments. I'm sad to see that you guys won't be the ones delivering the JC3-MP mod, but at least things aren't over with JC-MP. I'm relieved and glad to hear you guys are still planning on keeping JC2-MP stable and playable, even if you may not be adding any new features. Thanks for all you guys have done, and thanks to the rest of the community as well.

Nanos is still making their JC3MP as well I guess. Though I don't know a ton about them; I planned to stick on the side of the JC-MP team but for multiplayer in Just Cause 3 there's not much left.  ??? I guess we'll just have to see what happens.

And again, it's not over for JC2-MP... I still feel there's some life left in the community and still some potential for some awesome things in the future. I am still seeing new players regularly so who knows? Every time I get asked how to teleport, it makes me happy to see a new player.  ;D

Thanks for everything, and best of luck to the development team and the rest of the community in the future. Though, again, I still don't think this is the end. JC2-MP still has some potential in it I feel. Looking forward to whatever may happen in the future with both JC2-MP and Nanos's mod. We'll just have to play it by ear.  ;)

EDIT: Trix, I'll be looking for your name when the credits roll in a future Avalanche game haha.

Sigh

Well, I was really looking forward to JC3MP. But guess real life trumps this, thanks for the ~3500 hours of free entertainment though.

Tell the good lads at Avalanche to integrate multiplayer into JC4 or I'm commiting suicide.
