Hi JC-MP community,
I'd like to inform everyone that the the public beta testing period for the Fallen Civilization survival server will begin on December 1, 2015.

The Team
The server was largely created over a five month period by Dev_34 and Lord_Farquaad, with help from __init__
Our team is 4 people just like you:
Lord_Farquaad: He's been around since the initial jc-mp beta tests, even created JC2 mods before that; enjoys flying boats in his spare time.
 __init__: A robot hacker and programmer that loves developing both cool and whacky scripts for jc-mp.
Dev_34: Avid scripter having roots in jaxm's Battle For Panau server; loves to blow people up with a Panau Rocket Launcher
Misterff1: Casual coder known from the Freeroam Fun Server. He’s been around since the JC-MP Beta days and loves socializing with other players the most.

Alpha Stage Helpers: Ice Cream Man, {c4}Cobra, Dampe, TheStuffJunky, Bliss, prepchef, Thee Doctor


The Server
Approximately 22,000 lines of code that work together to create:

Influence Points System / Experience

- an experience-based level system that allows players to upgrade their character and unlock other powerful features
- players can accumulate experience from killing, completing server achievements, and more

- players can create faction bases anywhere and upgrade their factions in multiple ways

Crafting

- a supported currency system called 'credits', used in many aspects of the server
- a 'friends' module that allows players to work cooperatively, e.g. use each other's vehicles
- custom server achievements that track player progress and offer rewards



Upcoming Events
- Release - January 6, 2016

We'd like to thank everyone that's supported our efforts over the last five months as we head into beta and then release.
Due to our inability to test our scripts extensively in a real jc-mp setting with lots of players, we've dedicated the next month to finding bugs, completion of several more scripts, and taking community input to shape the server.

We will also be giving [Beta] nametags to all players who participate at any point during the beta period, as our way of saying thanks.

Beta Notes
- the durability system for items is not stable enough yet, and will most likely be worked into the server during the second week of beta. this means weapons, grapplehooks, parachutes and other utilities will have infinite usage - enjoy it while it lasts
- a complete wipe of our databases will most likely occur in the transition between beta and release
- the beta tests will be used to assess gameplay balance, so please do not expect a balanced experience during the tests

I've had a chance to take a sneak peak at Fallen Civilization and can honestly say these guys have done a great job creating a unique experience. Very cool indeed! Good job guys and best of luck :D

Heya, Stuffy / Junky here.  I am glad I could help.  There is a lot of loot to be found and new wonders to be had in Fallen Civilization.  I will do my best to help even further.  Just remember as Ben Franklin said: "He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither."

StuffJunky here.  I figure I mention that there is now 400 vehicles: *most heli pads have a heli (except most dual or quad pads), and most water gas stations have a boat, and a myriad of vehicles elsewhere.  Further, there is currently 13,500 hand-placed loot.  The regular spawn points have loot at surrounding villages / bases, etc.  There, we hope, will be 20,000+ loot by release on January 1st, 2016.
Admins are working very hard on making new crafting items, claimable property, build items, etc.
So, do not hesitate to pop in Fallen Civilization and get a feel how it works.

Release Update
Tons of new features, reworks, optimizations, and more.  What could be better?

The server will officially release on Jan 6, 2016, which is currently tomorrow. We'd like to thank the 1,070 people that participated over the two-week beta-testing period and hope to welcome many new players in the weeks to come. We've made many game-play tweaks that we believe constitute a ready server.

Here's a video showcasing the new additions with this update.  Keep in mind that this does not showcase all features of the server, just some added with the update.

Along with all that was presented in the video, we have more features listed in our changelog (http://fallen-civilization.wikia.com/wiki/Changelog).  Some of the more notable features on this list include more additions to vehicles (such as gas and traps), complete rework of the cursed system that involves the long-awaited meteors addition, and the complete inventory layout overhaul, which can be seen in the video.


We'd also like to welcome the newest addition to our core admin team, Misterff1!


Please note that the server will be down from now until the update is deployed tomorrow.

Thanks, we're liking the build system currently without players having to claim land. Our initial fear was that players would spawn things like crazy everywhere, but we've noticed that our crafting system makes sure that players won't waste their build materials  :)

Suggestion to nerf or change meteors. It's supposed to be challenging but it's so challenging now to the point it's just silly to even try and loot cursed areas. With 100+ ping it's impossible to loot more than one single box before being blasted away by 3 meteors. They also go through walls so there's no safe place anywhere to heal up or do anything.

Also keep overload dropping 1 item every time I log in but it does not appear on the ground.

Make loot boxes Hold E to open. Let go of E = close loot window.

Make it so you're able to use the UI without losing control of character. For example E on loot boxes disables walking, crafting menu etc etc.

We agree that nerfing the meteors slightly is a good idea. I've almost doubled the respawn time, decreased their damage, increased their angle randomization by roughly 15% when targetting players making it less accurate, and slowed them down a bit. Sometimes they would go through walls because of a raycast delay that I implemented to improve client performance, however, I've decreased the delay and meteors should now be blocked by almost any surface given it has some thickness to it(you can now stand safely in PIA's hangar). I will most certainly nerf meteors even further once we add our zombie script to cursed zones.

We like our current system where you can move the character in any direction and it will close the loot screen, this means you just have to tap "E" once to open a box and can walk away when you're done.

You could just disable the firing inputs when the inventory is enabled. I think you only use left/right mouse to do things in the inventory (correct me if I'm wrong).

The land represents the area where you can place turrets, faction guards, and build your clan house.
While the first two features mentioned have been created entirely, we still have to add the most important aspect of the faction base, which will make it clearer why factions have dedicated spaces.

I have been slowly, but surely weaning myself off of the Survival District and spending more time on FC for sure.

A couple quick questions/comments:

1.) Are there plans for a locking stash for loot storage besides the current garbage cans?
2.) Reverse in planes.....I know it takes away from the realism, but I think that without it, many planes become stuck and therefore cannot be used unless towed out with another vehicle.
3.) Can we have more than 1 "Pet"?
4.) Fully upgraded K22 Rowlinsons, pretty please  ;D

Keep up the good work, I am only spending time on SD now to try and spread the good word about FC!

Yes absolutely, we have an overwhelming "queue" of features that we aim to add soon, and this is near the top.

You can expect this in the next update.

We'll switch the current version we have over to the fully upgraded version.

There was an error in syncing with an intermediary program we use to edit files directly on the server. This occurred as we were adding in the weekly nametags, and resulted in 300 nametags getting cut out of our file.

By contacting us directly and requesting your nametag back, we'll verify it and add it right back to the list. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Having a blast on the server so far. Really good job with the constant updates and content that's being added! The playercount seems to be growing bit by bit lately.. really glad to see that!

[MOD] StuffJunky here.  Well, FC has gone all out with much more to come.  There are over 570 vehicle spawns all types are on different respawn times and about 20,000 loot spawns with more than 97% of all settlements having loot.  FC Admins and Staff are always listening to your requests, fixing bugs, and making a JCMP server a great community.  We like our players and what they do for FC server.  So many players have come and looted the heck out of Panau.  They have crafted items to use and built huge bases from those items.

Thank you much for all the players that make being a MOD in great server even better.

You might have our client script intensity confused with latency. We use an excellent host that many other jc-mp servers use and it has never had problems in terms of latency.

Well since you can't even see other people's latency in game mine is 340ms whilst on other servers i get 120ms i tried equipping a gun but it keeps disappearing  because of the lag obviously this event occurs when your anti-cheat system doesn't receive information about my gun therefore un-equiping the gun

Well since you can't even see other people's latency in game mine is 340ms whilst on other servers i get 120ms i tried equipping a gun but it keeps disappearing  because of the lag obviously this event occurs when your anti-cheat system doesn't receive information about my gun therefore un-equiping the gun

Well, the server is in Canada so I guess it makes sense why you'd have a worse latency. And that's not how our anti-cheat system works  :o

If everything is alright regarding latency for other servers that Dev_34 claims to have similar/same hosts as theirs then it should be a problem on FC's end otherwise i would have faced latency issues on many other servers which is not my case

While I appreciate your concern regarding server latency, we are convinced there are no problems on our end and therefore don't feel there is any course of action that could be taken or further reason to discuss this.

You should put an eye on exploits that players abuse lol ,and thanks

I logged in today and the server seems to have been rolled back. I was level 40 or 41, my pet was level 35 and now I am back to level 8, my faction affiliation is gone and I have no pet, vehicles, bed, stashes etc.......  :(

Fallen Civilization is back after a 2 day maintenance!

Well, the last few days have certainly been a brutal learning experience in the etiquette of database management.

Over the past 3 weeks, we've been dealing with a corrupt database that has been causing crashes several times per week.
We ignored it at first, initially not knowing there was any issue with the database.
As things have intensified over the last week, I've done some research and have been able to recover the database to a working non-corrupt state.

Unfortunately, this recovery process has caused us to lose 18% of the database.
While that percentage may sound staggering, keep in mind that the vast majority of our data is from the thousands of people who have joined, left five minutes later, then never came back.
I've requested for the Mods to inspect known player builds and ask players if they are missing things.

Initial reports are showing that very little has been lost to the database issue, which is good news.

Due to the inconvenience caused by this issue (which will never happen again), we've decided to host a special double exp/loot/credit event which will last several days in the very near future.
You can expect higher drop rates for rare items, more player and pet exp, more credits, and other helpful tweaks.
More on this event will be revealed later.

Everyone's favorite MOD, StuffJunky here.  First, thank you.  Admins work hard on bugs, new items, and new very cool features.  I work on adding new loot, fixing bugged loot, and some other loot issues, along with vehicle placements.  By the way, all cursed areas will NO longer have vehicles except PIA, which I moved the planes to under the tunnels.
I do agree that the compensation is very awesome.  I have asked many players that had lost items to let me know, and I have replaced plenty... there are some things I cannot replace though.
If you are a player and need items replaced, let me know in the server so I can do my best to replace what you lost.
I also keep the 3 storage bins in the desert spawns full of parachutes, grapplehooks, and backpacks /pocketed vests for players that need them or lose them at death.

And again, yes, Fallen Civilization has an awesome staff.

Well, I was hoping this would be kept on a need-to-know basis for now while I sorted out some other things, but it seems that's no longer possible. No worries.

You're right, our team has come to a collective decision to stop working on Fallen Civilization.
We're going to shut down in approximately 13 days.
This comes from a variety of factors.

As many know, we've poured our time and effort into FC for over eight months, starting on July 15, 2015.
Back then, things were a lot different for both me and Lord_Farquaad, who started the project together on that fateful day.
To start off with, we both sucked at coding; we both had minimal coding experience (I had some beginner's Visual Basic and C++, but nothing in-depth) and Lord_Farquaad was around the same skill level as me.
Yet even with our below-mediocre skills, I was eager to dive into the project.

This, it turns out, was a recipe for disaster.
As we both learned better coding style both inside and outside of jc-mp, mainly coding in a way that supported extendability(which is vital for any major project), we came to realize that the fundamental basis on which we coded our server was built on a constant learning experience with the concept of extendability.
To give an example, the most important module in our server, the "loot/survival" module, has been refactored so frequently and so dramatically over the last eight months that it becomes mind-numbing.

I came to realize that this was inevitable.
My skills were growing at a rate so fast that in order to keep up with my vision for the future of the project, I constantly needed to go back and either fix stupid bugs or just refactor things so they could support upcoming content.

This is one of the reasons why we've decided to close the project.
We've created a monster with an endless amount of bugs that no amount of time allotted to any one of the admins will ever truly fix without an insane amount of refactoring.
Personally, I think I've spent over a hundred hours of my life refactoring the loot module, and at this time I'm in the middle of the biggest refactoring yet, which is becoming clear to me that it simply will not get done.

Which brings us to the second reason why we've stopped development.
Our team has essentially pro-created and produced an offspring that constantly needs our affection, time, and hard-work.
When we started this project, we had a lot of time on our hands and few obligations and responsibilities to attend to.

It's a lot different now.
I know Misterff1 has been really busy working irl, and I'm totally supportive of that decision.
Frankly, it's stupid to dedicate time to something like a jc-mp server when there are so many more important tasks in life.
LF and I have also seen a serious reduction in our free-time.

But we're also moving on because as young developers, we can no longer afford to spend a serious amount of time in this environment.

While I applaud the jc2-mp developers endlessly for their work, honestly, what they've created is pretty amazing, I've grown to the point where my curiosity can no longer be limited by what jc-mp offers.

With the time that LF and I do have to work on side-projects, we're looking at more serious alternatives like actual game-developing.
We've both started down this road and are both working on our own respective projects with the Unity engine, where there is so much to learn and almost no way in which we can limited from realizing what we want to see in a game.
This is opposed to the many hours we've both spent looking through the modelviewer hoping to find something that lets us make something cool in jc-mp.


None the less, we had a good run in jc-mp with Fallen Civilization.
I think we've created the framework for something pretty unique, and I certainly think it could be improved.

For this reason, we're releasing all of Fallen Civilization's scripts to the public.

It's never really been about creating something for myself, I've always found it more personally rewarding to bring joy to other people through what I can create.
I don't actually think I've ever been capable of playing in my own server, the guilt that I'm not providing the best possible experience always pushes me back to the drawing board and Notepad++.

While I'm technically the owner since I exclusively pay for the server's hosting, this has never been the way our server has been run.
From Alpha members who helped conceive the very idea of the server, to the Mods who have spent hundreds of hours placing tens of thousands of things around Panau for players, to the Admin team whose broad range of talents provided the means to bring it all to life, the server is ultimately a collective effort that I don't think one person could ever claim to own, regardless of how this concept is practically non-existent in the world.

So I think it's only a natural decision to let other coders salvage through what we've created in the hopes that maybe it can improve the content they provide for the community.

With this being said, the current plan is to release something we've dubbed the 'FC Script Pack', which would be a working version of all our server's scripts.

This also means that if someone were audacious enough to run a clone of Fallen Civilization, or under whatever name they want to call it, we would be totally okay with that.

So while you might think that this is the end of our work in jc-mp, you might be wrong.
It's up to whoever feels like it to expand our work or just apply apply our code in other ways.


I can't speak for our whole team when I say this, but, I do plan to continue recreationally coding in jc-mp whenever I feel like it.

Keeping a server running is as lot of work. I've been saying for a year that I want to get a server running, but it never happens. And now, like you, life and other interests are causing me to slow down my JCMP work. So don't feel too bad. Just take comfort in the fact that you've contributed something great to JCMP, especially if you decided to release everything.

So sorry to hear this Dev. I know you and LF have put lots of time in to your server and came up with a unique experience. I too have been in the same situation, i never played another game since the release of JC2MP until recently when i played DCS World and EuroTruck sim 2 which really opened my eyes and Since Dual booting Windows 10 i am now playing JC3, GTAV etc. For almost two years i was stuck in JC2MP mode. I am not complaining the Dev's have done a terrific job and i have met a lot of people and learnt a thing or too as well. Considering the fact i am almost 50 and have a full time career i think i spend too much time running Gaveroids JCMP Server. No plans to close it down any time soon though  :D

This came as a surprise for me as well, but I fully agree on the choice that's been made here. Once you lose willpower, the strength of the server gets lost.

I am very proud of the result that we, but mainy dev and lf, managed to create and as mentioned by dev, perhaps someone might take it over and continue where we left off.

Anyway, I will be off and on for jcmp and might still make some scripts from time to time. If anyone needs a design overhaul for a script for example, don't hesitate to ask.

It's looking like we'll be releasing the scripts that are running on the server right now first, in one big bundle, sometime in the next two weeks as we shut down.

As many know, we still have a ton of mostly finished content that hasn't made it on the server yet, like submarines/other underwater features, spaceships, paratrooper NPCs, planets/space, 'blockworld', a long quest-line for the Wings of Legend item, and other cool items.

The latest stuff is pretty solid, and I think it's representative of some of our best work, but we'll need a little extra time to get these ready for a release.
So we'll most likely release these scripts here in a second bundle, but, if for some reason that takes too long, it's possible we might move to individual releases since some of the scripts are of a high enough quality.

Multiple people have made inquiries as to if the current database will be made public.
We currently don't have plans to release the database.

Lord_Farquaad and I have recently found some time to work on pack #2, so we've been hard at work organizing all our old source code for FC that never ran publicly.

We made it clear that our intentions for pack #2 were subject to change, a decision made because we did not know what kind of reception pack #1 would receive.

The most enthusiastic and promising effort we've seen with the old FC code has certainly been by our buddy Jman100, who is now running Jman100's Survival.
If there's anyone capable of extending the work on pack #1, it's this guy.

In light of this development, the old FC team has decided to hand over pack #2 exclusively to Jman while his server is running.
I've personally seen pack #1 run along-side a fully working physgun, unlimited boost, and a standard buy-menu, which doesn't make any sense to me lol.

While we've gladly released our code for the community in the past, we ask your forgiveness for pack #2 because we want Jman's server to be unique and we have confidence in his ability to construct a coherent server.

Pack #2 is looking to be a promising addition of 10,000 lines of code.

FC will not be coming back in JC2MP.  If jman100's survival is down, all I can say is that he is working on new features for his JC3MP server and might not look into it for a while.  I can't say anything about the status of Survival District.

I personally am also working on basic JC3MP scripts as well, so don't expect anything new from me here.

hiii guys i have a bug report about building stuff base.. they  are moving in strange position after re-connect. so each time i need to rebuild  0_o

where i can change that in scripts ?

This is a very well known bug that has needed fixing for a while. The main problem with it was that it was discovered after the server was online for a while, and the fix could damage the already built structures.  I worked a long time on developing a fix but it never hit the server.

If you do want to fix the issue, you will need to also clear the build database which means that all existing builds will be deleted.

I'll try to make the fix along with instructions sometime this weekend.  It's a more in depth fix than some others, so it'll take a little time.  I'll let you know when the fix is complete.
