Suggestions / Re: NPC Please :)
« on: March 04, 2015, 09:17:00 am »
I know I'm replying to a relatively old thread, but anyways...

Addins NPCs (that can interact with the world, or you in any way) is impossible. This is because the servers doesn't know where the ground is etc. It only knows what players (positions of players, movement of vehicles etc) and scripts (spawn X vehicle) tell it. To add NPC the whole mod would need to be rewritten, and the server would need to run JC2 - and not just a normal instance is enough! It would need to see the whole world (this kills the server).

However, a good scripter might be able to add some basic (pre-scripted, or just standing around) NPCs, but they won't look good or do anything super interesting, like missions, with you.

It could allow for the creation of new types of races too, such as hardcore races (no automatic).

Oh baby. ;)

100 players is enough - for a race. ::)

While I agree it would be a lot of fun to play on a single server with everyone (like ETS2MP), it would really take away from the sandbox aspect JC2 has.

What will you test when there is nothing to test? ::)

Could I ask you to host your images on imgur? They seem to be loading very slowly.

(I did drop the ball on refueling, because I intended to implement that as it had received majority vote but needed to focus on school work.)

Instead, you decided to implement catch-up, which was voted against quite a bit aswell. ::) You are being overly protective, AkioUK is just being critical. No racer wants to go on for hours at 150kmh. Even 10 minutes is painful, and imagine doing that without any damage you need to control.

Okay, I'm getting together event details. As of now, I'm planning to make a different course for the event but keep catchup on. I also plan on adding refueling if it is practical to implement.

I've had some semi-frequent crashes with JC2MP for some reason, which leads me to believe that I absolutely must write some code that will allow for people to reconnect in the event of a game crash.

I don't all the time in the world to tend to this completely up to the planned event start time of 8/30 8PM EDT. (If there was, I'd have a decent shot of writing the code I need to get written.) I'm delaying the event to 9/27/2014 8PM EDT so I have more than enough time to put everything together, (and also because it'll give me extra time to get more people on board to make the event more exciting.)

Over the next week will be contacting all participants that have signed up and all interested participants to inform them of the new start time.

Good luck with the event, I hope the next one will have better timing for us Europeans! :)

Scripting support / Re: Rejoining a race after disconnect (0.7.5a)
« on: August 24, 2014, 11:53:20 am »
you have to store the last checkpoint of a player and if he disconnects ( calling the event "PlayerQuit" ) you have to insert this data into a database with the steam_id of the player as a key. Once the player rejoins you must teleport him to his last checkpoint. However I dont know if there is anything else needed since im not in to the racing script. PM me if you need more details.

You'll also need to add him to the race and modify his position in the race, and spawn the correct car. Maybe dreadmullet could help out.

JC2-MP / Did you livestream JC2MP beta tests on Twitch?
« on: August 13, 2014, 03:23:50 pm »
As Twitch is deleting their past broadcasts, I was wondering if anyone streamed their JC2MP beta gameplay. You probably have to have these highlighted (or they may have been removed already).

Archiveteam is hoping to archive the more important video, and I thought the beta tests would be nice to have in the future too.

Actually, I love that first idea a lot! Let's get that course made and use it for the event, I wanna see it in action!

No, stop. That track is the most boring track I have ever had to drive. Highways should be avoided for long races like this, which is why I preferred smaller (mountain) roads. Nobody is going to want to drive something like that for over 5 minutes.

Latest / Re: Highlighted Server Cycling
« on: August 11, 2014, 06:08:46 pm »
hi guys, wondering...  why isnt survival district 134.255.220.245:7789 on the Highlighted Server Cycling ? It has all the requirements, offer a original game play, and it totally needs players.
Another server thats offers a dif game play, is ABK Server 208.94.240.70:7777

Sure they are in Dev, but so are the rest of them

Because they haven't applied here?
